What is the Geo Green Team?

As part of UF’s ongoing sustainability pledge, the Geo Green Team was set up in 2014 to transform the Department of Geological Sciences into one of the most sustainable departments on campus.

Who are we?

The Geo Green Team is one of UF’s largest sustainability groups and is made up of more than 20 people who work in our Department, with individuals representing the undergrad, postgrad, postdoc and faculty communities.

What do we do?

The Geo Green Team is actively working to facilitate positive changes in workplace behavior and infrastructure to reduce the Department’s electricity use and waste production.

Examples of ongoing projects include:

  • provision of recycling points throughout Williamson Hall
  • providing a green behavior guide for all current and new employees
  • installing motion sensors for lighting in Williamson Hall
  • building a departmental transport share scheme for events off-campus

We are also working with other Green Teams across campus to build a UF sustainability network, and to explore campus-wide ideas for green changes, such as composting and inter-department competitions.
