Make a Gift

By supporting the University of Florida’s Department of Geological Sciences, you invest in a future with a deeper understanding of Earth and planetary processes and better management of Earth’s environment and resources. Your gift fuels research in Earth and planetary systems, mineral resources, and climate change. It also enhances experiential learning and funds essential fieldwork, preparing students to lead in the geosciences and confront global challenges such as natural disasters and resource management. Each contribution, regardless of size, empowers our students and researchers to explore, discover, and innovate, laying the foundation for advancements with real-world impact.

My dissertation research is on organic carbon cycling in fjords, which are a type of estuary found in high latitudes. My research requires samples and data collected from the field, and financial support from the Department of Geological Sciences allowed me to participate in oceanographic cruises in Sweden and Patagonia. With the samples and data collected from the field, collaborators and I hope to better understand how estuaries can act as net carbon sinks. Support from our department has allowed me to take advantage of extraordinary opportunities, and for that I am thankful!
