Areas of Interest / Research

  • Structural Geology
  • Tectonics
  • Thermochronology
  • Geochronology
  • Metamorphic Petrology

Dr. James Vogl’s research is in the broad field of tectonics, with emphasis on the structural and thermal processes associated with collisional mountain building and crustal extension. Current research is focused on the processes by which high-pressure metamorphic rocks are exhumed at convergent margins and the flow behavior of the middle crust during extension. His research incorporates field mapping, structural analysis, geo-thermochronology, and metamorphic petrology.
