The Keene Faculty Center was a hive of activity during the Department of Geological Sciences’ Trivia Bowl 2015 on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.
Thirteen teams with 40 Department undergraduate and graduate students took on five rounds of Earth science questions in pursuit of the Trivia Bowl 2015 title. Question topics — including geological history, climate science, structural geology, and geochemistry — became increasingly difficult with each round. It was great to see so many students actively engaged in applying their broad geological knowledge to challenging questions.
The teams of Gneiss Gators, Up Dip Funk You Up! and Multiple Dynamic Overthrusts dominated the competition, with Gneiss Gators taking an early lead. Despite valiant attempts to close the gap by Up Dip Funk You Up! and Multiple Dynamic Overthrusts, Gneiss Gators held on to their lead and claimed victory in the final round, winning by 3 points.
Special thanks to graduate students Andrea Portier and Alina Bricker and undergraduate Erin Conlon for organizing the event with additional help from undergraduates Shane Fussell and Daniel Collazo. The event was hosted by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) student chapter and supported by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) student chapter.
