- Average award: $1700 (~50% success rate).
- Eligibility:

American Geophysical Union
Research Grants and Fellowships
- Deadline: February 2, annually.
- Awards: $2000-5000
- Eligibility:
- Graduate and undergraduate students.
- Some require AGU student membership.
American Association of Petroleum Geologists
Foundation Grants-In-Aid Program
- Deadline: February 15, annually.
- Eligibility:
- Graduate students.
- Research must relate to the development of petroleum and energy-mineral resources, and/or related to environmental geology issues.

Grants-In-Aid of Research Program

- Award: up to $1000.
- Eligibility:
- Graduate and undergraduate students.
- Does not require membership, but it helps if student or their adviser is member.

Society of Economic Geologists
- Deadline: March 15, annually.
- Awards: $1000-5000 for one year.
- Eligibility:

Society for Sedimentary Geology

The Colorado Scientific Society Grants
- Deadline: March 21, annually.
- Awards: $600-1000 for field-oriented research on geology, geochemistry, and geophysics of the Rocky Mountain region.

Gulf Coast Association Geological Societies Student Grant
- Deadline: Applications accepted October 1 to February 28, annually.
- Awards: $2000 maximum for research in the Gulf Coast.

Tobacco Root Geological Society Field Scholarship
Deadline: February 15, annually.
Awards: Maximum $1000.

The William L. Wilson Scholarship in Karst Science

Fellowships and Programs
NSF Graduate Fellowships
3 year research fellowships. For both MS and PhD students. Application can be made during the senior year of college, prior to or during the first year of graduate school, and at the beginning of the second year of graduate school.
Schlanger Ocean Drilling Fellowship Program
Merit-based awards for outstanding graduate students to conduct research related to the International Ocean Discovery Program. The $30,000 per year award is to be used for stipend, tuition, benefits, research costs, and travel. Research may be directed toward the objectives of specific expeditions or may address broader themes.
EPA National Center for Environmental Research STAR Fellowships
Fellowships for MS and Ph.D. students conducting environmental research. (Application period July – Oct).
NSF Summer Institutes in Asia and Australia Program
Program supports eight weeks conducting research and experiencing life in Australia, China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
