Madison K. Flint, Ph.D. Candidate:

Hello prospective and incoming graduate students! My name is Madison Flint and I was born and raised in the beautiful sunshine state. I received my B.A. in Chemistry and my B.S. in Biology from Florida Atlantic University in 2014,  and my M.S. in (Inorganic) Chemistry from the University of Florida in 2016. I am a chemist at heart, but my love for minerals and nature brought me to the Geological Sciences department in the summer of 2016 – where I joined Dr. Jonathan Martin’s research group. When I am not doing geochemistry, my favorite things to do are to tend to my garden and visit the springs of north-central Florida – they are absolutely breathtaking. I also love to play Disney tunes on my oboe 😊

My current research interests include investigating Nitrogen cycling in the karstic Upper Floridan Aquifer, particularly focused on understanding Nitrous Oxide (N2O) production, consumption, and emission mechanisms from Florida springs. This work is a collaborative research effort between the Department of Geological Sciences and the Department of Microbiology & Cell Sciences (Dr. Brent Christner) here at the University of Florida.

I’d be happy to answer any questions you might have about grad school in Earth Sciences at UF!
